Income Tax Calculator — old vs new regime
The new regime offers lower rates and a larger standard deduction but almost no deductions; the old regime keeps the deductions and charges more. Which wins depends entirely on how much you actually claim, so this shows both with the full working rather than just naming a winner.
Nothing you type here is sent to us. This calculator runs entirely in your browser. Only the statutory rates come from our servers.
The new regime is cheaper by ₹1,13,099 for FY 2026-27.

| ₹0 – ₹2,50,000 | 0% | ₹2,50,000 | ₹0 |
| ₹2,50,001 – ₹5,00,000 | 5% | ₹2,49,999 | ₹12,500 |
| ₹5,00,001 – ₹10,00,000 | 20% | ₹4,99,999 | ₹1,00,000 |
| Above ₹10,00,001 | 30% | ₹2,99,999 | ₹90,000 |
Each band taxes only the income inside it. Applying the top rate to the whole income is the classic error and overstates the liability substantially.

Assumptions
- Salaried individual below 60, resident in India. Senior-citizen slabs differ and are not modelled.
- The new regime does not permit Chapter VI-A deductions, so any figure entered there is applied to the old regime only. That asymmetry is the whole comparison.
- Only income from salary is considered. Capital gains are taxed at their own rates and would change the answer materially.
- Marginal relief is applied both under s.87A just above the new-regime rebate threshold and on surcharge just above each surcharge threshold, as the law provides.
- This is informational only. It is not a tax computation, not a return, and not advice — a qualified adviser should confirm any regime election.
